Carbon Beauty Waterford... My Perfect Facial

Hi Ladies,

Apologies for the little delay in my blogs, last week was a bit mental turning the big 27 but it was an amazing week full of chocolate cake, surprise presents and loads of posing!!

Saturday morning I was back in Waterford and visited the beautiful Davina Bishop in Carbon Beauty. Davina has a brilliant menu of treatments and always has offers on her Facebook page so be sure to give her a ‘like’ when you finish reading this post.

We had been planning a piece on the salon and what better product to showcase her talent that a beautiful facial including the new fave the Cleanse Off Mitt.

The weather on Saturday morning was horrific but when I arrived into the treatment room it felt glorious, it was so cosy, a really lovely scent and soft lighting. Pure bliss! So I got myself sorted and onto the treatment bed and then Davina worked her magic.

The treatment lasted an hour and I was so relaxed there was no way I would remember the steps so thankfully Davina took some snaps and also sent me this brilliant description.

The facial included:

A pre-cleanse with the cleanse off mitt and then applied cleanser to the face and removed it with the cleanse off mitt
Exfoliated the face then cleansed the face again.
After the second cleanse, a mask was applied to the face and left it on for 15 minutes, before removing the mask, a 5 minute scalp massage was given.
Removal of the mask with the hot mitts again and massaged the face for a further 15minutes.
Applied the moisturiser and eye gel to the face.
The facial I was given was a rebalancing deep cleansing facial. The cleanser, toner and moisturiser was Cucumber moisturisation, energising, detoxification and softening properties. Willow Bark natural astringent with anti-bacterial properties, can be used to fight skin impurities. Mallow ultra moisturising properties. Helps to lock in moisture especially around the sensitive eye area. Deep Cleansing Mask rejuvenating deep cleansing mud mask specially formulated to remove impurities and reduce excess oil. It was one of the best hours I have spent in my life lately and I think for my skin a facial every 6-8 weeks will be a blessing. I am currently using my mitt and my Kiehls cleansing range each day and night so I am really hoping my skin is going to clear right up.

I have been slightly ill lately, heading to the doctor tomorrow as it seems my tummy is quite unwell over the last week. My forehead has erupted with spots and this is so awful but from researching face mapping, this is a sign of digestive problems. You should all have a look at face mapping if you suffer from spots and try get some tips on how to reduce these. For me, I am on a detox diet plan and trying to drink loads and loads of water.

The salon is beautiful and it creates such a pleasant atmosphere. I have been to Davina for a facial, massage, spray tan and brows before and she is wonderful. It’s so important to have a good relationship with your beautician and Davina is so lovely.

I would highly recommend you all to get a facial every now and then to really take care of your skin. It is such a lovely experience, you are so relaxed and you know that you are taking real care of your skin. Make up will always cover up any imperfections you may have but it’s great to treat yourself and chose the right skincare for your own face.

Masterclass in Inglot Liffey Valley with MUA Avril and Enisa

If you ever sit in the office on your lunch break and scan through Facebook and see an Inglot masterclass coming up close to you... Listen to that inner voice and get there, they are without a doubt, one of the best ways to learn to create flawless look and it’s FREE!!!

This was my second time meeting Avril in Liffey Valley but I have been linking in with her a little through Facebook planning my shopping list in Inglot (which we’ll discuss more later) I really like Avril, her laid back relaxed personality makes it very easy to listen to her and watch her create an amazing look. She is very friendly and so welcoming, remembering people (like me) who have been at her classes before, interacting with them and checking out the hints and tips she gave to them last time offering more help after the class if they need it.

Tonight’s look in Inglot was a sort of Egyptian look on Enisa, a stunning MUA who also works in the Liffey Valley store. Both Avril and Enisa have their own Facebook pages and you can see the amazing work they create here;

So as always when working with loose shadows, it’s best to start with your eyes first...

Apply an eye shadow base (Inglot no.1) onto the eye using a concealer brush. This costs €10. This does not need to be perfect, blend out the primer using the 6SS brush. This brush costs €20. A primer like this will neutralise the eye lid and will hold your shadow to the lid also intensifies colour.

Avril then applied Gel Liner no.95 fron the Nobel collection onto the inner half of the eye ysing a 28PO flat brush. You only need to use a tiny amount of this product. Yes I know what you’re thinking, gel liner as an eye shadow but it is amazing!

On top of this, Avril applied no.43 Bronze Gold shadow pressed on top of the gel liner. This alters the colour and makes it stand out.

Taking again the 6SS brush with no.337 Soft Brown Eye shadow, apply to the crease and brow bone. This soft brown is your transition colour. A swift light over and back circular movement is best for blending. Start at the outer corner, leaving most of the product there and sweep in towards the inner eye. Depending on the size of your own eye, your client’s eye will determine how high you take your transition colour. Enisa has beautiful big eyes so Avril was able to take it quite high.

The next step in this beautiful look was to apply your gel black liner to then see how much of a darker brown colour you need to apply on the outer corner of the eye. Funnily enough, some people can be quite anxious when it comes to applying liner so take your time and a good tip Avril says, is to get your client to look in the opposite direction of where you were applying the liner. Avril applied the black liner with the 17TL brush. This is actually a brow brush, but it creates a beautiful line for liner. Using black gel liner can be difficult for people, so take your time at it. You can take it in stages and when creating your flick, mark out where you want the flick to be by placing the brush onto your eye and then fill it back in. You can clean up the flick line with concealer and a small brush. Squeeze the concealer brush to make it flat and fanned out and tidy the line. A note on liner for this look, the top lash line is lined all the way into to the inner corner of the eye.

Next Avril took gel liner no87 Teal onto the waterline using a 31T brush. All gel liners are fully waterproof and retail at €15. After this, clean your 31T brush of all the gel and then apply no504 Purple shadow as close to the lash line as possible. This teal shadow is a double sparkle shadow and is truly beautiful. Again with the waterline and the lash line, ask your client which way to look to ensure you can apply the colours properly.

Back to the top of the eye... Apply no.239 Dark Brown onto the outer corner using a 10S small shadow brush and then blend it out using the 6SS brush. Next taking no.63 Black, apply just where the eyeliner is on the outer eye and with another 6SS brush blend both the dark brown and the black together.

Go back in with your gold on the lid again if needed.

Clean up the under eye area with a cotton bud. Remember, you still haven’t applied any foundation so don’t worry too much about the fall off.

Wipe off your teal gel/shadow from the 31T brush and now apply no.325 matte pruple right under the wing and onto the lash line.

Taking the pencil brush 8THP, blend the purple into the lash line more to intensify.

Now that all your shadows are applied, you may want to go back in with your black gel liner and tidy up your flick.

*Ladies, makeup applications take some serious time, so don’t worry if you feel you are taking ages, I am only now getting used to my blending and this can still take up to an hour or over to get a full face done. You’re eyes should look similar but they do not need to look the exact same. So don’t panic!*

Mascara: This was very interesting, for this look, Avril applied Colour play green mascara €10 to the bottom lash line only.

Lashes: 14N lashes were applied to Enisa and these were fantastic! They really set off the look, they have a thin band which make it easier to apply directly to the lashes and yet look extremely full. These lashes are €12 and will be on my shopping list for sure. You should get 5-6 wears out of a set of lashes with good care so they are a great investment. When removing lashes from their packaging, with your thumb, push the lashes down off the mould, do not peel them as this can damage them and they can lose their shape. Use Duo Glue when it comes to lashes, you know my thoughts on this stuff, it’s really the only thing good enough to put on your eyes.

Face: Avril applied YSM 49 to Enisa. The YSM foundation is for people with more normal to oily skin and on a recent match without tan I would be a 41 (again on the shopping list, it’s getting big now) This foundation is good for coverage, it’s a demi-matte foundation and won’t flash off cameras. Avril applied this with a flat foundation brush 21T and then taking a 4SS brush, buffed it out. This 4SS brush is actually an eye brush but works perfectly for creating a flawless finish to the face. If you do have oily skin be sure to use a primer before. Leave your foundation to settle onto your skin first before your apply powder and this can make the powder very cakey.

Avril moved onto Enisa’s brows while the foundation set. Enisa has amazing brows, really beautiful. Using the no.329 brown eye shadow and the 17TL brow brush, start with under the brow, drawing the line very straight and then flick the shadow up through the brow to fill them in.

To highlight the brow bone, Avril mixed shadows 395 and 330.

Concealing under the eyes can brighten a look if the client has dark circles, for this look as your eyes are aleady done, you can match your concealer to your foundation to be sure you get right up to the eye shadow in coverage. Avril used no96 under eye concealer which retails at €15. Buff the concealer under the eye with the same 4SS brush you used with the foundation. Use a peach toned concealer if you have dark circles as it will neutralise the blue/dark skin tones.

Once your foundation has now set you can see where you might need setting powder. Avril used setting powder no.15 on Enisa using a 1SS brush and placing it on the ‘magic triangle’. This area starts between the eyes, down onto the apply of the cheeks, the nose and down to the chin.

No.79 Rainbow Bronzer was used to contour the hollow of the cheeks and forehead using the 15BJF brush. To find the hollow of your cheek you can either pull a ‘fish face’ or roll your brush down your cheek and into the hollow, the hollow is where you contour.

The blush used for this look was no.32 which is €9 as a single. Apply this to just the apple of the cheek lightly.

The highlighter was the fantastic Sparkle dust no.2 which you only ever need a tiny amount of, the shimmer is beautiful. This is €18 and I will own it soon! The brush used for this was the 15BJF.

The lip was applied using the lip duo no.30. The duo consists of a stain and a gloss. It is a beautiful product and set off the look perfectly.

This look appears to be so difficult and when I first saw the add about the masterclass I didn’t know if I would go as I thought ‘way too advanced’ for me but Avril and Enisa explained it so easily that I think now with these instructions, it’s something I could try take on myself.

As I said at the start of the post, my shopping list will be completed over the next 3 weeks as I start my beginners makeup course in Inglot Blanchardstown tomorrow night. I am so excited for this and will have fully detailed blog posts on all I learn, new products and hopefully creating a fab look on a model, the last night.

My Recent Make Up Lesson with Kandigloss

Happy Friday everyone!!

This was quite a hectic week for me both in work and for the blog. What better way to start your working week back then a make up lesson on Day one :)

After work on Monday, I headed from Naas to Citywest to meet the beautiful Michelle. As with my previous lesson, Michelle from Kandigloss http://kandigloss.wordpress.com/ is another beauty blogger and MUA. We got in touch through twitter and Michelle very kindly offered me a full lesson for half the price so just €35 and let me tell you, it was money well spent.

In preparation for the lesson, we had discussed what I'd like to do, so I had suggested we create a dark smokey look, using my own products including my new Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. Another aspect to this lesson which I felt would help me loads is to do a half and half lesson. Basically ladies, if you are going for a lesson and really want to learn.... Ask your MUA to create the look on half your face and then you have to recreate it on the other half. This is a great learning technique as your MUA can point you in the right direction but also it becomes more clear in your memory when you have actually created the look yourself. It can take more time but if you have a great MUA like Michelle, they will be very patient and give you load of help and encouragement

Although I could buy make up all day and night... January is not the best month to be investing in loads of new make up so using what I have was a great plan. This will also make it an awful lot easier for me to recreate the look, but it is important for me to say, you don't have to own these exact products to achieve this look, similar colours with the same technique will work perfectly.

As I had sent out the question of budget beauty products, I will be creating a beautiful look using more main stream products soon so keep an eye out.

Michelle, very kindly, as part of our lesson offered to type out all our makeup details so credit to Michelle for this, makes blogging the lesson so much easier for me. As I said ladies, money well spent, Michelle does this as part of all her lessons so you never have to worry about remembering it all.

We began with my eyes, again girls this is a great idea if you are worried about fall off from products, or in general it's much easier to only fix your eyes as opposed to your whole face.

Smoky eyes using the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette (Michelle's notes)

Eyeshadow:

· From the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette I took “Trick” and applied it all over the first 2/3^rd‘s of the lid with a flat shader brush (MAC 239 works good for this)

· Using the same brush I added “Factory” to the outer third of the lid and blended with a fluffy blending brush.

· I then took the colour “Limit” and using a fluffy blending brush I applied it lightly in the crease using windscreen wiper motions back and forth in the crease to blend.

· I also took the darker colour “Darkside” and using a stiffer domed brush from Nima (a 239 would also work though if you just “place” the colour in the V) and worked it into the outer V of the eye blending into the crease with the fluffy brush and building a couple of times with the colour.

· I also used a touch of “Blackheart” though the outer V to darken slightly.

· I blended the edges as much as possible and softened it with some more “Limit” on a fluffy brush over the edges. Softening edges with my fingers also if necessary

· I highlighted the browbone with “Strange”

· I then added a little more of “Trick” to the inner lid and went over the centre lid with a dab of “Dust” on a MAC 239.

· Moving onto the under eye area, I used a MAC 219 pencil brush & ran “Trick” on the under part of the eye 1/3^rd in and used “Darkside” on the outer 2/3^rd’s smudging well.

Liner & Mascara:

· Using an Inglot synthetic angled liner brush, I applied Maybelline Black Gel Liner to the upper lashline in a thick-ish line, winging slightly on the edge by just pressing the angle brush into the outer corner.

· I lined the lower rim of the eye with UD 24/7 black pencil and smudged it slightly into the lashline also with a pencil brush (this is optional, depending on how dark you want it to look on the bottom.

· I then applied mascara and moved onto the face.

Face:

· I applied Emma’s own foundation which was YSL Touché Éclat using a Bland Canvas F20 stippling brush.

· Using MAC Select Cover Up concealer which is a creamy consistency an perfect for undereyes, I applied this under the eye area using a Real Techniques domed crease brush and I blended down in a V to the cheeks and up onto the cheekbone as well as near the inner part of the bridge of the nose.

· I also used it to conceal any blemishes using the same concealer.

· In order to set the undereye area and ensure there was no creasing or settling in lines, I patted over the under eye area with fingers evening out the product and quickly took an Inglot 4SS blending Brush and using a Catrice face mattifying powder, I swept it over the undereye area to set the concealer and ensure it didn’t crease or budge.

· I also swept it lightly all over the face to set the foundation.

Contour, Blush & Highlighting:

· Using Emma’s Contour palette and a small blush/contour brush from Crownbrush, I highlighted under her cheekbones & on the temples as well as along the Jawline and along both sides of the nose (using a smaller fluffy blending brush)

· I then blended any harsh lines with soft fluffy Inglot powder brush.

· Taking my small blush brush I applied NARS “Orgasm” blush to the apples of Emma’s cheeks and blended back to the temples with the Inglot powder brush.

· Using the same small blush brush I took some MAC Mineralize powder in “Lightscape” as a highlighter along the top of the cheekbones, down the centre of the nose and on the cupids bow.

Brows:

· Using Emma’s HD Brow Palette, I applied the dark brown shade to her brows with an angle brush.

Lips:

· I lined Emma’s lips with Rimmel’s East-end Snob and applied her pink MAC Lipstick (forget the name sorry!) I then went over with MAC Nymphette lipgloss

· Finally, I applied glamourous false lashes and Emma was good to go!

As you can see I looked amazing so thank you so much to Michelle for her patience and hard work. Also on the night, Michelle used her fab camera to capture the look, I then went home and went pose mad as Michelle also showed me the 'beauty shot' mode on my Samsung S4, I nearly choked that I had not seen this before, I looked like a doll so be aware all my pics will now be in beauty shot mode haha!!

I have to say as a lesson, it was one of the best half and half's I have done. We took our time, we chatted loads, I was very relaxed and comfortable and I do feel it's possible for me to recreate this look using the notes Michelle has provided.

Ruby Laine Make-Up & Special FX Lesson

Happy Monday everyone!

I dunno about you but I was not overly impressed when my alarm started going off so early this morning. I was just getting used to once again waking up late and loving the lie ins but yet here we are back to the grindstone.

Over Christmas my blogging was not the best but I do hope you'll forgive me as it's the festive season and I have a lot of Harry Potter to be watching and spending some much needed time with my friends. I am feeling refreshed in the blogging sense, there is so much happening in the coming weeks I am quitely confident you will be happy with all the new posts, lots of lessons and also an insiders view to my makeup course in Inglot beginning the 14th of this moonth.

Anyway.... back to business, On Sunday the 29th of Dec I ventured along the M50 to visit Ruby Laine Make-Up & Special FX.Check out her website here http://rubylainemakeup.com/ It was a cold morning but I was raring to go. Ruby Laine 'Elaine' is a fellow blogger and we had linked in through twitter when I sent out a post if any bloggers wanted to feature here on my blog by helping me with lessons. Ruby Laine so kindly offered her services free of charge which was great with Christmas coming so close. We had pencilled in an earlier date but I was really under the weather with a migraine so we postponed a week or two.

When we had discussed the lesson, I explained that I wanted a look that was easy to create but looks amazing. We chose a feature to work on and what better than a smokey eye with hint of glitter in time for new years. Glitter is not something that can only be used at Christmas, I think people just go that extra bit funky with glitter as they do with bright coloured lippies in the summer months. This was to be a very interactive lesson for me as Elaine had dislocated her shoulder so there was a lot of explaining and I completed the look with a little help, so if I can master the black... so can you!!

I was in awe looking at the amount of products which were surrounding me, I can't help it any time I see something I don't already own I just want it!

We decided to use as many of the products as I already owned as possible and then a few extras. So ladies this smokey eye look only needed 2-3 brushes, minimal expertise but a little patience and perseverance and you'll get there :)

We firstly applied a black pencil eye liner to my liner, very messy, very uneven but do start at the lash time and work up from there. Any kohl liner will do here, there are great liners out there from Catrice, Rimmel and then the usuals of MAC and Urban Decay. Taking a clean big fluffy brush, you then blend out the black liner all over the lid and up into the crease. Not too high that you hit your brow bone but up to the crease in your eye. Work the brush is circle motions to help the blending and take your time. You will see it creates a matte effect on your eye. Ruby Laine explained, when you apply liner to the lid and blend it out, it intensifies any colour you then put on top of it.

We chose a navy eye shadow to sit on top of the black. Ruby Laine had a beautiful L'oreal colour from what I remember but I know I have a very similar colours from both Inglot and Urban decay. For great palette ideas be sure to check out Sleek, they have fantastic colours. I know what you are thinking, navy on black? But yes! It creates a beautiful shadow behind the navy colour. Firstly apply this to the lid using a small flat brush and then buff it all out with another blending brush. As I recently posted, I have invested in some new Crown Brushes and on the day we used other Crown Brushes which I will attach the link to. One was sold out when I went to order it after the lesson so I will deffo get it in the coming weeks.

Once you have blended the colour up you will already see how smokey it looks. You can go back in with your navy to strengthen the colour if you wish or if you wanted to smoke out the eye even more, you could add a darker colour such as black into the outer corner of the eye. I wanted to keep this look as simple as possible as I already feel I'm dodgy when it comes to black... sometimes I feel when I add liner to looks like this, I look like I have been punched in the face! Bad times! :(

I did however add a lovely white/cream shadow to my brow bone as a highlight. Ladies this is really essential, it can brighten the eye, give more shape to the brows and open your eyes so please don't forget this step. You'll find no matter what colour palette you get, there is usually a colour which can be used as a highlight so keep an eye out.

That is pretty much the top of your eye done before the glitter. Just to note, this look is not only for a navy blue colour, you could add any dark colour onto your lid using the liner as a sort of primer so that's why we chose this, it's completely versatile and once you get the hang of the blending as high or a dark as you would like you can create loads of different looks using the same basics and same brushes.

If you want to add glitter to this, choose a fine glitter, you don't want something too clumpy as it can build up on your eyelid. I had recently attended an Inglot masterclass and purchased a product called duraline. This can be used almost like a glue to set glitter onto the eye but when looking at the set we had, we didn't need the duraline. This blue/lilac coloured glitter was from a set Ruby Laine picked up in a Boots sale which I hve kept my eye out for but still not found, it's called front cover so if any of you see one please do let me know. :) Line your top lash line with either gel/ liquid which ever is easiest for you. We used a beautiful Catrice marker liner which had a great colour and was much easier to use then the liquid I had brought with me. I found the liner was easier to draw, I kept it small and tight into my lash line.

Apply your false lashes in whatever way you feel most comfortable. I am doing them years at this stage and yet still struggle so much, I am trying now to look down and use a tweezers but I find my fingers always work best, just be sure not to stick yourself to yourself. Girls please please be careful with glue for lashes. Ever since I started using the DUO Glue I couldn't dare use anything else, it may not smell the greatest but is so safe and dries clear so never runs your look. Do not use cheap glue on your eyes, you never can be too sure. You can buy DUO Glue from Cloud 10 Beauty for around €10. It's a very wise investment I promise!

Lash on the mascara to bind your own lashes to the falsies and then onto your bottom lash line. Go back in with the liner on the lash line if you need to. If like me, you are not overly confident on your eye makeup, be sure to do your eyes first, after all, if there is fall off it's no worries to you as your face it nice and clean. You can sweep off any excess product from your face with a little cleanser and a cotton swab. As there is no glitter going onto your bottom lash, now would be a good time to apply your foundation/ under eye concealer and then finish.

For the bottom lash line, you take your navy colour brush and lightly colour in your under eye, making sure to blend right over to the outer corner. Then go back in with your pencil liner into the waterline if you can. I find that when a pencil is too sharp it can really hurt my eyes so just keep an eye on that, you don't want to make yourself all teary eyed.

This was the easy peasy breakdown of how to create a beautiful smokey eye. I know we made it sound so simple but ladies, with a few practice runs you'll have a smokey eye in 10 mins ready to rock any day. So just to go over the plan:

Bare face
Pencil liner on lid
Blend out liner with fat fluffy brush
Add pop of colour (in this case navy)
Blend out colour up to crease with new fluffy brush
Add glitter with flat brush
Add gel/liquid liner
Apply falsh lashes
Apply mascara
Go back over liner on top lashes
Clear away any product on face
Apply foundation
Apply under eye concealer
Blend navy colour under eye
Apply pencil liner into bottom lash line
Smile you're beautiful oh and finish the rest of your face!!
