Max Factor Excess Shimmer Shadows/ Intensity Liners review (plus a slight rant)

12:28:00

Hi All,

Coming up on the blog this week I have three makeup reviews. It’s about time I got back into them and I am not forgetting my ‘how to’ series, just got my camera back so I can take better pictures, it’s much hard to get a clean picture on my phone… I think it’s on its way out!

So first up on the blog this week are two products, I was sent to review months ago and only recently attempted to use them. Now I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but I don’t rush in to using a product just because it’s sent, I like to have a real good play with it before I make up my mind especially if it’s something I am  not overly confident with.

I see a  lot of comments/posts lately from followers and bloggers alike justifying their own opinions, clarifying when they get something for ‘free’ and when they buy it themselves. I think a really important point for me to say is that, although you are extremely lucky to have a PR company or a brand themselves send you a product for review, if you are worth your salt as a blogger it takes time to test it out. If you try something once and then decide it’s wonderful and tell people to buy it straight away and 6 hours later your skin is falling off from using it, how viable are you with your information.

We can all get distracted in life and I feel that’s totally ok, none of the bloggers I am friends with blog full time, we all have jobs and family’s, boyfriends and lives that need attention so we can all slip at times and not post as much as we would like… case in point… me! I find I slip into a trap of posting on twitter, Instagram and all over my Facebook but I am not actually writing posts so I really want to get more consistent and post at least 3 times a week that is my new goal so if you see me slipping… shout at me!!

So what’s up today? Max Factor!! This brand I have been treated to at least 3 times now and it has never let me down. I was so sceptical of these little potted eye shadows though so as I said really took my time to try them out properly before giving my opinion.

I was actually sent 5 of these excess shimmer cream eyeshadow pots but couldn't find the 5th for the picture. I think it’s at home in Waterford and of course it’s the one I use the most! The bottom pencils are three excess intensity eyeliners in three different shades.

Flash & No Flash

To give you a real insight into these shadows take a look at the two pictures, one with flash and one without. The pigment is astonishing! They really do glide onto the lid as you would expect with a cream like shadow. I do like to prep my eye with a good primer such as the inglot eyeshadow base or my urban decay primer (although this makes things very slippy) so sometimes a bit of concealer can make all the difference on my lid.

I use these regularly now on my days when I want a wash of colour on the eye as I rush out the door before 8am. It’s totally down to my own lack of knowledge but when I tried to mix these with a powder shadow to create a different look, it didn't really work out for me. Sometimes I will add a little spotlight effect to my eye using one of these right in the centre of the lid after creating a powder look. You can apply these with either a brush or your finger but as it’s now a habit for me to use brushes, I tend to just reach for one now all the time. So if you are looking for a morning quick fix product, give these a go, the pay off is very good and I do feel that last week throughout the day in the office. The shadows are available in 6 shades and retail at €7.99 each.

No Flash & with Flash

The liners are again something I have been playing around with for a few weeks now. I tend to mostly use these on my bottom lash line to add a pop of colour to a look. I was sent three beautiful shades and again you can see when the flash it on just how intense they look. I find that I am after practicing so much with my gel liner that pens just don't do the same job for me however, with these pencils, they glide along the lash line so again on some work or day looks I like to create I might just add a line of colour along my top lash line with a bit of mascara and you’ve created a funky day look. I like getting brave with my makeup and it’s good to try things out.  These liners are such good value at €8.99 each.

I’m really glad I gave them the time to really test them out as they are not something I would normally pick up in a store. As always Boots can be a really good place for bargains in brands with many 3 for 2 offers on so keep an eye out if you want to get your hands on some of these products.

If you have any tips and tricks on how to use cream shadows or coloured liners I would love to hear from you to share your ideas!!
